The Gate, a complex owned by General Electric Capital Real Estate, underwent a major renovation that transformed a 1960s building into a modern corporate center in the heart of Milan's Porta Nuova Business District. One of the main features of this project is its façade architecture, which reflects a focus on innovation and sustainability.
The complex has nine floors above ground and five basement floors, and is designed to accommodate multiple companies, 50 percent of which are General Electric group companies. The building underwent a complete overhaul of its interior and existing facade, which included the remediation of asbestos fiber elements in the structure.
The project also involved the reorganization of the five basement floors, which were adapted to house archives and a gymnasium for the building's exclusive use. The internal parking lot was protected by a roof garden accessible from the second floor, adding a touch of greenery to the complex. In summary, The Gate represents an example of modern, sustainable architecture that integrates state-of-the-art technological solutions to create an efficient and comfortable working environment.
Attention to the environment and sustainability is evident in the LEED Gold certification achieved by the complex, thanks to the use of low-impact design solutions and an efficient solar shading system. In addition, high-performance engineering solutions were integrated to improve the building's overall energy efficiency.
New office areas were designed with floating floors, modern suspended ceilings, and flexible layouts, while common areas were curated to provide a comfortable working environment. In addition, a large panoramic meeting room on the top floor, surrounded by a rooftop garden, was built, offering occupants a breathtaking view of the city.
