An Architectural Excellence between Sky and Water
In the heart of Mestre, just 800 meters from the train station, stands an architectural gem that enchants both for its aesthetic beauty and its structural innovations: the Laguna Suite-Palace. This hospitality-hotel complex, consisting of two separate buildings, represents excellence in hospitality and contemporary design.
The first building, Laguna Suites, houses about 350 hotel rooms and 100 residence apartments, with generous, modern spaces equipped with kitchenettes and dedicated services. The second building is dedicated to conference services, with the striking Laguna Gallery, an open space of as much as 600 square meters, ideal for prestigious events and conferences.
The concept behind the project was to create an architectural bridge over the Salso Canal, the navigable canal that runs through the city of Mestre and leads to the historic center of Venice. This distinctive element is represented by the large glass canopy, one of the largest in Europe, which spans some 11,000 square meters above the water canal below. Connecting two opposing bodies of the building, the canopy creates a covered dock for pleasure boats, giving the structure a unique and striking atmosphere.
The canopy's static system is based on five lattice "box" beams, which are supported by giant flagpoles, recalling the image of boat masts and port structures. This structural balance, combined with the use of state-of-the-art technology, gives the Laguna Suite-Palace a solid foundation on which its refined architectural elegance stands.
The exterior cladding, composed of terracotta tiles and tempered glass panels, creates a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity, emphasizing the building's beauty and blending seamlessly into the surrounding urban landscape.
DHK Architects, together with Studio Marco Piva of Milan and Studio Favero & Milan Ingegneria of Mirano (Venice), developed a project that stands out for its attention to detail and the quality of the materials used. The interior, designed by Studio Marco Piva, reflects the essence of luxury hospitality, with refined furnishings and state-of-the-art technologies that meet the needs of the most demanding clients.
