Located on the upper reaches of the Loire estuary, the Ile de Nantes is at the heart of the greater Nantes area. More than just a hospital, the CHU is designed to integrate harmoniously with its current and future surroundings. Its multi-level design strategy encompasses a wide range of design features.
As an expression of a new model of healthcare design, the project stands in stark contrast to earlier models of twentieth-century hospital buildings: the exterior features an abundance of parks, promenades and biodiversity niches, creating links from the banks of the Loire to the recently developed urban fabric.
The goal is to bring together the essential functions of the University Hospital in the heart of the urban agglomeration, thus contributing to a higher quality of service and the development of a center of excellence for education, research and economic activities.
The new hospital brings together in a single environment CHU's short-stay activities (medicine, surgery, obstetrics), currently dispersed across two sites (Hôtel-Dieu and Hôpital Nord-Laennec), and a Health Research Institute, IRS 2020, dedicated to research groups accredited as "university hospital departments."
This is a new hospital model that will provide the best possible conditions for receiving and treating patients. The goal of the project is to design a hospital that is open to the city, aware of its environmental responsibilities, in close contact with its partners and able to provide a pleasant environment to contribute to the "well-being" of patients, visitors and professionals.onnels.
