Contemporary architecture is constantly evolving, and the 2000 Ross project is an outstanding example of how glass can become an essential element in redefining the skylines of the most modern cities, offering the possibility of creating iconic buildings.
The building, presents itself as a highly recognizable feature in the urban landscape. The façade has a seemingly continuous surface made of screen-printed frosted double glazing, which lights up at night, providing a unique visual spectacle.
The Trammell Crow Center, a 1.2 million square foot (111,483 sq m) office tower, has been an icon of sophisticated living in Dallas since the 1980s. However, a lack of parking and amenities weakened the area's property values. The project transformed a simple parking lot into an innovative solution, bringing new life to the neighborhood.
The project site is on the edge of the Dallas Arts District, a vibrant neighborhood with innovative buildings designed by Pritzker Prize winners. HKS provided an urban design and architectural solution with a space for a much larger and more diverse program than just a parking structure.
The garage façade, inspired by the progressive architecture of the Dallas Arts District, integrates harmoniously with the public environment, providing a bright, modern architectural expression. Sophisticated opal glass cladding conceals the garage's function along Harwood Street and Ross Avenue, a major thoroughfare in downtown Dallas.
The ground floor along these streets is designed with retail space, restaurants, wide sidewalks, trees and benches, creating gathering places for citizens and giving the neighborhood a gathering place where once it was just an asphalt parking lot.
