THE GLASS BUILDING
The Glass Building
An Architectural Rebirth in Milan
The Glass Building project, designed for Polis Fondi, radically transformed the image and functionality of an iconic structure without compromising its identity. Located in the heart of Milan, this 1960s building, designed by Massimo Roj, underwent an architectural revolution led by the architect himself.
The main challenge was to renovate the building without interrupting its daily activities. This need prompted the design team to find innovative solutions that would improve the building's performance without disrupting its operations. The result was an opportunity to renew not only the aesthetics, but also the functionality and sustainability of the building.
While maintaining the existing facade, distinctive elements were introduced that recall traditional Milanese architecture inspired by Caccia Dominioni. New red details blend harmoniously with the existing structure, creating a dynamic contrast that captures the attention of passersby.
The key to the success of this project lies in the combination of aesthetics and functionality. The new low-emission windows not only improve indoor comfort but also contribute to the building's energy sustainability. The west façade was designed with photovoltaic panels and special glass that protect the interior from excessive solar radiation, reducing the need for cooling during the summer months.
Internally, spaces have been redesigned to maximize efficiency and comfort. Each floor was designed as an independent unit, with dedicated equipment and services. Suspended boxes of flowers create a bioclimatic greenhouse that lends a unique atmosphere to the rooms, while the central stairs have been transformed into true works of art with the inclusion of plants and decorations
The interior lighting has been completely overhauled, with the installation of new pendant luminaires that provide even and efficient lighting. An automatic light-off system contributes to energy savings and the overall sustainability of the building.
In addition, to provide greater flexibility, independent equipment has been installed on each floor, allowing each tenant to manage their space independently, reducing waste and optimizing the use of resources.
