As of May 2018, the port of Civitavecchia, departure point for the most adventurous Mediterranean cruises, boasts of hosting one of the most modern and state-of-the-art terminals in Europe: the Amerigo Vespucci Terminal.
Masterfully designed by Genoa-based Studio Vicini, this impressive building welcomes passengers with a perfect fusion of functionality and comfort, making the departure and arrival experience an unforgettable moment.
On the second floor of the Terminal, the main entrance leads passengers into the spacious check-in hall, equipped with more than 60 stations to facilitate the check-in process. Here, baggage screening takes place efficiently, ensuring a smooth departure. But that's not all: passenger comfort takes center stage, with a VIP lounge, a Cruise Bar, and a rooftop terrace offering breathtaking views of the city and port.
The building is an interplay of contrasts and harmonies: much of the cladding on the ground floor is blind, but the large glass surfaces on the boarding level create a direct connection with the outdoor landscape. The glass windows, supported by a steel and aluminum substructure, allow visitors to enjoy the sea in all its majesty, while at sunset they offer a spectacle of light and shadow that is reflected in the interior environment.
But the Amerigo Vespucci Terminal is not only a starting point for adventures at sea: it is also a place of discovery and culture. Inside, guests can admire an exhibition space that houses Roman and Etruscan artifacts, offered by the Port Authority and the Superintendence of Fine Arts and Culture for Metropolitan Rome, Viterbo and Southern Etruria. These exhibits tell the fascinating story of Civitavecchia as the port of Rome and Lazio, enriching the travelers' experience with a dose of history and culture.
The Amerigo Vespucci Terminal is more than just a cruise departure point: it is a symbol of architectural excellence, a combination of functionality, comfort and beauty. With its fusion of modern materials, natural light and historical heritage, this terminal is confirmed as a jewel in the heart of the Mediterranean, ready to welcome and amaze travelers from around the world
