In the heart of South Williamsburg, the Oosten is a perfect blend of Brooklyn's historic soul and a modern vision of living. This luxurious residential complex, designed by Stantec and built by the prestigious Lam Group, is an island of serenity and elegance in the fervor of the neighborhood.
Its location is enviable, close to the Williamsburg Bridge and the banks of the East River. The NYC Virgin Hotel offers a unique living experience to those privileged to call it home. At more than 500,000 square feet, the complex occupies an entire city block, and offers residents more than 13,000 square feet of greenery, spacious, family-friendly units, extreme attention to design details, and an extraordinary range of amenities.
This project stands out for its unique exterior design, which reinvents the style of the industrial warehouses that once dominated the neighborhood. The seven-story complex, with red brick and dark gray windows, fits harmoniously into the urban context. The spacious and green inner courtyard is surrounded by white brick walls that reflect light and create a bright and welcoming outdoor space.
The living units are equally stunning, with a design that combines luxury and comfort. Hardwood floors, limestone or marble bathrooms, high ceilings from 10 feet up, and floor-to-ceiling windows that fill spaces with natural light create a refined and comfortable atmosphere. The Oosten also offers many quality amenities, including two lobbies, a 24-hour front desk, a rooftop terrace with children's pool and barbecue, a fitness center and spa with 55-foot pool, children's playroom, private parking, and bicycle storage.
The project bears the signature of Dutch designer Piet Boon, who was able to create striking variations of the facades using local materials. With his "barefoot chic" vision, Boon gave the complex a touch of sophisticated yet relaxed elegance, giving it a timeless feel that reflects Brooklyn's unique character
The Oosten is an architectural masterpiece that stands out as a landmark in New York City's residential landscape. Despite the technical challenges faced in the development, such as the design and fabrication of custom-made glass walls, the complex has been able to express innovative design, attention to detail, and a Dutch sensibility. This extraordinary building provides an unparalleled living environment in the heart of Brooklyn.
SFIDE AZA US fabricated 95,000 square feet of custom-designed and engineered glazed walls and stick windows. The complex required 1,150 parallel projecting windows, Unitized Facade with widely varying glass sizes, vertical aluminum exterior fins, and punch windows with integrated aluminum exterior fins.
The extrusion of the slab cover was customized, and the Unitized Facade achieved an acoustic performance of 31 and 33 OITC, ensuring the highest possible living comfort.
